Election

Elections of the president are held by an electoral college consisting of 

  1. Elected MLAS
  2. Elected MPS
  3. Elected members of UT(Delhi and Pudducherry)
The value of the votes of MLAs & MPs of every state differs
  • Value of the vote of MLA = Total population of the state/(total number of elected MLAs*1000)
  • Value of the vote of MP = Total value of the vote of MLA/total no. of elected members of both the houses 
Qualifications
  1. 35+ years old
  2. Not a member of either house
  3. Oath administered by CJI
Terms and Conditions of the Office
  1.  5 years
  2. Citizen of India
  3.  No office of profit
  4. Resignation addressed to the Vice President
Impeachment Provisions
  1. Can be initiated by either of the houses
  2. Signed by 1/4th members, both elected and nominated, only the parliament, not the state legislature.
  3. Resolution passed by a special majority
Powers
  1. Executive Powers, makes rules for the union, appoints the CJI, CoM, AG, CAG, Governor, etc
  2. Legislative Powers, nominates 12 members in the Rajya Sabha
  3. Judicial Powers, Appoints CJI, Judges of SC & HC
  4. Veto Powers, Assent, Withhold, Return a bill.
