Why this subject scores

  • It is the biggest part of History. In UPSC and most State exams, Modern History and the freedom struggle carry the largest share of History questions.
  • It is fact-heavy and repeatable. Dates, treaties, Acts, leaders and sessions return every year, so tables give quick marks.
  • It joins other subjects. The Acts of 1909, 1919 and 1935 feed Polity, railways and the drain of wealth feed Economy, and the 1947 accession feeds J&K History.
  • It tests patterns, not only dates. We give you the pattern (why, who, what changed) in Exam tip and Memory trick boxes.

How to use these notes

  1. Read one topic at a time from the list on the left (or tap Topics on a phone).
  2. Keep a one-page timeline of your own and add each date you meet. Writing it makes it stick.
  3. Read the Exam tip, Memory trick and J&K corner boxes in every topic.
  4. Attempt the Practice Questions at the end of each phase, then test yourself with a free JKEdusphere mock test.
  5. In the last week, use Unit 9: Quick Revision only.
  • A Brief History of Modern India (Spectrum, Rajiv Ahir) for quick facts.
