Why study Polity
- It is scoring. Polity is factual and fixed. Articles, cases and dates do not change much, so a well-revised topic is nearly always a safe mark.
- It appears everywhere. The same chapters feed the General Studies paper, the Prelims and the State services exams. You study once and use it in several papers.
- It connects to current affairs. Governor's powers, delimitation, electoral bonds and Article 370 all started as news and became exam questions.
- It supports other subjects. Economy (Finance Commission, Budget), History (Acts before 1947) and Governance all lean on Polity.
How the exams weigh it
Polity is one of the most predictable sections in General Studies. In UPSC Prelims it usually brings a block of roughly 12 to 18 questions out of 100. In JKPSC, JKSSB and other State exams, Polity and the Constitution form a steady part of the General Knowledge or General Studies paper, with extra weight on Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370, Reorganisation Act, domicile rules). The exact number changes every year and every paper, so always check the latest syllabus and the previous year's paper of your exam.
Start with the first topic: Historical Background.
