J&K Bank Vacancies 2026: Myth or Reality? 1,400 Posts Explained
Are the J&K Bank vacancies 2026 real? For three weeks, Telegram channels and job-alert sites have been saying that J&K Bank is recruiting 1,400 people. Some even show a post-wise table and an exam date. We went through the bank’s public statements and reports from Greater Kashmir, Times of Kashmir and The Hans India to separate what is confirmed from what is guesswork.
Quick answer: reality, but not yet official. The bank’s board has approved around 1,400 posts, and MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee said so publicly on 1 September 2026. But as of 20 September 2026, the official advertisement has not been released. Any exact vacancy table, exam date or last date to apply is a guess.

Reality: on the record
- Board approval. The MD said the board has approved around 1,400 posts for advertisement in the coming weeks.
- First big drive in almost five years. He described it as the bank’s first major recruitment exercise in nearly five years.
- Local candidates only. Every post to be advertised will be open only to J&K domiciles, with around 40 posts for residents of Ladakh.
- No replacement of the existing workforce. He said there is no plan to change the bank’s core recruitment model.
Myth: circulating without proof
- “Notification out for 1,400 posts.” No such advertisement exists yet.
- Post-wise vacancy tables. The breakup has not been announced. Any table you see is a guess.
- Exact eligibility and age limit. Some sites quote graduation and 20 to 32 years, but they say this is “based on previous” drives.
- Exam and application dates. None have been announced for the 1,400 posts.
- “Exactly 40 posts for Ladakh.” The bank said “around” 40.
Three different J&K Bank notices
A big reason for the confusion is that J&K Bank has issued other notices this year, and sites often mix them up with the 1,400-post drive.

If a post says “J&K Bank notification out, apply now”, check which of these three it means. Most of the time it is one of the first two.
Expected positions in the 1,400-post drive
Expected, not official. The bank has not published a post-wise breakup and only spoke of posts “at various levels”. This table is based on past drives. Use it as a guide to what to prepare for, not as a list of confirmed vacancies.

In both 2018 and 2020, roughly four out of every five advertised posts were Banking Associate posts. If that repeats, most of the 1,400 could be at that level, but the bank has not said so.
J&K Bank salary for different posts
Read this first. The bank has not advertised the 1,400 posts, so there is no official pay scale for them yet. The figures for regular posts below are reported by exam-prep and job-alert sites, and older articles quote different numbers. The apprentice and contractual figures come from the bank’s 2026 notices as reported by several outlets. Confirm every figure in the official notification.

For regular posts, take-home pay is basic pay plus dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other allowances, so it changes with the city of posting and with wage revisions. Be careful with any “in-hand salary” claim that does not show the pay scale behind it.

How many vacancies were actually filled?
We could not find an official, consolidated figure of how many candidates finally joined from each drive. Public sources give posts advertised, applicants and candidates who appeared, but not final joining numbers. Be careful with any site that quotes a “total selected” number without linking to the bank’s own result or press release. For exact figures, an RTI application to the bank is the reliable route.
Which authority conducts the J&K Bank exam?
- The recruiting authority is J&K Bank itself. Notices come from its Human Resources Department at the Corporate Headquarters in Srinagar. This is not a JKSSB or JKPSC recruitment.
- The online tests were conducted by IBPS. The bank’s 2019 press release says the tests were held directly by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), Mumbai, with technical support from TCS. Later cycles also used IBPS for call letters and results.
- For the 1,400-post drive, the agency has not been named. Past practice points to IBPS, but wait for the official notice.
- Apprentices are different. The 614-post drive was an apprenticeship under the NATS scheme. Candidates registered on the NATS portal, applied to the bank, and the selection included an online objective test. It is training, not regular recruitment.
Do not mix it up with JKSSB. The J&K Services Selection Board has separately invited applications for 2,863 posts under Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026, with applications from 5 October to 3 November 2026. You can prepare for both.

Where to find previous papers
We could not find full-length question papers officially released by the bank. Before the 2019 tests, the bank did put demo and mock online tests on its website, so check its Careers page for the same once the new notice is out. “Memory-based” papers on third-party sites are reconstructions by candidates. Use them for practice, not as proof of what was asked.
Should you believe the 1,400-post claim?
Why it looks credible
- It was stated publicly by the CEO, not by an anonymous source.
- Board approval is the step that normally comes before an advertisement.
- The bank’s HR department is active, with two other notices already issued this year.
Why some caution is needed
- “Coming weeks” is not a date. Nearly three weeks have passed since the announcement.
- Past delays. The 2018 and 2020 drives show how long the road from advertisement to appointment can be, including a court challenge in 2020.
- Local jobs are a sensitive subject in J&K. The MD’s statement was partly a response to concerns about non-local hiring. He said the bank may do limited, need-based hiring of non-locals for branches outside J&K in future, as it did until 2019, but that is not part of this round.
What to do now
- Follow only official channels. The Careers section of the bank’s website is where a real advertisement will appear first. Ignore screenshots and forwarded PDFs.
- Prepare on the previous pattern. English, quantitative aptitude, reasoning, banking and economy awareness, and J&K general knowledge are safe areas. Do not plan around fixed dates.
- Keep your documents ready. Domicile certificate, graduation marksheets, category certificate if applicable, ID, and a photo and signature in the required size.
- Do not pay anyone. Nobody can guarantee a J&K Bank job or sell you an “inside” vacancy list.
