Sections 8 to 12 deal with J&K and Ladakh's representation in Parliament.

Rajya Sabha (Council of States)

  • J&K UT: 4 seats (Section 8 amends the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution). Ladakh has none.
  • The 4 sitting members from the old State were deemed elected to the new J&K seats, with their terms unchanged (Section 9).
  • The old State also had 4 Rajya Sabha seats, so J&K's number did not change.

Lok Sabha (House of the People)

  • J&K UT: 5 seats. Ladakh: 1 seat (Section 10), making 6 in all, the same as before.
  • Section 11 amends the Delimitation of Parliamentary Constituencies Order, 1976 (Second Schedule).
  • Sitting members were deemed elected from the new constituencies (Section 12).
